NYFW Spring 2012: Helmut Lang

For most of us, it would come as quite a surprise that this season was the first time that husband-wife duo Helmut Lang have shown at New York Spring Fashion Week since being sold to Link Theory by Prada in 2006. This season's collection focused on layers of varying textures - such as cotton, silk and chiffon - that created a feeling of gentleness throughout. However, that's not to say that the brands usual attention to structure was lost. Cropped pants, structured jackets and a-symmetrical hemlines were present as usual, keeping this collection completely consistent with all those that came before it. One observation that I made about this collection was the choice of footwear. Had each look been styled with strappy sandal-like shoes as opposed to the more basic leather styles used, the whole collection would had a far more feminine feel to it. In particular, the printed and yellow styles that felt more edgy thanks to choice of footwear. Would you girls agree with this observation?
