Paris Spring Fashion Week 2011: Givenchy

There seems to have been a distinct shift in the pace of Spring Fashion Week since it has found its way to the petites rues of Paris. Back in New York, things were a lot softer - re: the sea of white at Alexander Wang and the all neutral colour palette used at Phillip Lim. Things began to get a little darker in London when Burberry Prorsum (apologies for not yet posting this collection) brought back the black leather biker - in more ways than one - and skin tight leather leggings paired with electric coloured accesories and dresses. Now In Paris, Fashion Week has further taken a darker turn at the Givenchy show which, much to my delight, confirmed that the rock chic look is back. This almost gothic collection comprised almost purely of black leather, sheer silhouettes with a touch of leopard and white in an attempt to maintain the Spring theme. The styling of each look doesn't make the clothing seem overly feminine upon first glance however, the use of sheer fabrics and deep wine lipstick provides the collection with its feminine touch. If you are anything like me and you thought that the leopard print trend was water under the bridge and as a result, thought it would be a good idea to sell off all your leopard to friends and on Ebay, it might be a good time to reconsider and hang it up in your wardrobe for later days. It will be back.
